digital cattle movement tracking
less time spent on data entry
dashboard for cattle operations
Agri Beef manages cattle across a vertically integrated operation, where movement, health, breeding, and RFID data must stay accurate from one stage to the next. Paper records and spreadsheets made that difficult, especially when tags were lost, replaced, or updated in the field.
Our team built a connected digital system to centralize these records. Teams could capture data offline, maintain RFID history, automate program assignments, validate entries, and access centralized reporting, giving operations leaders visibility into cattle activity across the business.
Company
Agri Beef is a family-owned, vertically integrated beef producer founded in 1968 and headquartered in Boise, Idaho. With operations spanning ranching, feeding, processing, and distribution across the Pacific Northwest, their four premium beef brands reach America's finest restaurants, leading retailers, and customers across more than 30 countries.

Custom Cattle Traceability
Agri Beef relied on paper records, spreadsheets, and manual processes to manage cattle movement, RFID information, health activity, and breeding data across its operations. As animals moved between locations and production stages, records became harder to maintain consistently. Lost or replaced tags, limited field connectivity, and manual reporting created gaps that made accurate traceability and timely operational visibility difficult to achieve.
Animal information lived across paper forms, spreadsheets, and disconnected workflows, making records difficult to maintain consistently.
Lost, damaged, or replaced tags made it harder to preserve a continuous history for each animal.
Teams needed to record cattle activity in locations where reliable internet access was not always available.
Incorrect or unusual entries required additional review before teams could confidently use the information.
Cattle had to be manually reviewed and assigned to the appropriate operational programs.
Consolidating breeding, calving, movement, and performance data required significant manual effort.
Folio3 built a centralized cattle traceability platform that connected animal identification, field activity, movement records, and reporting across Agri Beef's entire operation. Instead of paper forms and disconnected spreadsheets, every ranch location now had a structured, system-driven way to capture, validate, and track cattle data, from the moment a calf is tagged through every stage of the ranch-to-table process.
The team first mapped how cattle, RFID records, and operational data moved across Agri Beef’s existing processes. The platform was then designed around real field conditions, including limited connectivity, tag replacements, data validation, and reporting needs. Each workflow was built to reduce manual handling while keeping animal history accurate and accessible as cattle moved through different stages of the operation.
Reviewed how teams recorded cattle movement, RFID changes, health activity, breeding data, and program assignments to identify where manual work and data gaps occurred.
Created wireframes and validated the full experience with Agri Beef's team before moving into final design and build, ensuring the system matched how ranch crews actually worked.
Developed the web application across all core modules, then ran the complete experience through QA before any client-facing deployment.
Integrated the system across ranch operations and trained employees at every level, from field crews to management, for consistent adoption across all locations.
The platform gave Agri Beef a more consistent way to manage cattle information across day-to-day operations. Instead of relying on disconnected processes, teams could work from a shared digital foundation that improved data continuity, reduced administrative effort, and made operational information easier to access and use.
Maintains one digital record for each animal, bringing together identification, movement, health, breeding, and operational history.
Tracks RFID purchases, assignments, replacements, and retagging while preserving the animal’s historical record when tags change.
Lets field teams record cattle activity without continuous internet access and sync information once connectivity becomes available.
Digitally records animal movement between locations and operational stages, creating a clearer and more consistent traceability history.
Keeps health events, breeding activity, calving information, and related animal data accessible within the same operational record.
Uses predefined rules to assign cattle to the appropriate programs, reducing the manual effort required from operational teams.
Checks incoming records against defined ranges and rules to flag questionable information before it affects downstream reporting.
Brings cattle movement, breeding, calving, health, and performance information into centralized dashboards for faster operational visibility.
Agri Beef moved from fragmented, manual recordkeeping to a more reliable digital process for tracking cattle across its operation. Teams spend less time consolidating information, animal histories remain intact as RFID tags change, and operational data is easier to access when needed. The result is stronger traceability, cleaner records, and better visibility across day-to-day cattle operations.
Cattle records stay connected across movements, RFID changes, and operational stages, giving teams a clearer history for every animal.
Information captured in the field becomes available to operational teams sooner, reducing delays between activity and reporting.
Centralized records and automated workflows reduce the time spent correcting, consolidating, and preparing cattle information.
Managers can review health, breeding, movement, and performance data in one place, making issues and trends easier to identify.
